FreePaper Making, Berry Ink, Quill Writing & Wax Seals
by SC Department of Natural Resources
Saturday, June 29th @10am
All Ages — FREE
Note: This is NOT a Cola City event.
This program allows kids to learn how to make paper and a quill, and then work in pairs or small groups to make their own ink using crushed berries, vinegar, and salt. Following these activities, kids use the ink and quill they have made to write their own letters or draw their own sketches. After the letters and sketches have dried, they will learn about various ways letters were folded during the Colonial Era. Kids will then select a seal stamp and learn how to seal their letters using melting wax to take home.
This program is for ages 6 – 18 years old, however, younger children can participate. All supplies for this hands-on program are provided. The program will take place under a tent in the garden of Parker Annex Archaeology Center. Parents and guardians must remain with minors at all times.
